Could BP Directors be liable for the Oil Disaster?

Could Directors of BP end up being liable for the most the worst Oil disaster in US history?

It would depend on the jurisdiction and if they considered Directors had done all that is reasonably possible in regards to the Risk Management needed for this type of event.

Total liability for the massive oil spill in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico could reach US$40 bln, with fines and damages taking up at least US$23 bln-$29 bln, if relief wells manage to stop the flow of oil from the damaged well by August or September, according to estimates by Tudor Pickering Holt & Co. The company says relief wells currently being drilled in the Gulf "will likely kill the Macondo well." Tudor Pickering predicts BP, will pay an estimated $23 billion to $26 billion of the total because they will be responsible for the cleanup effort. Anadarko Petroleum Corp, a non-operating partner in the well, will be expected to contribute $9 billion to $10 billion, excluding recoveries from insurance or the oil spill fund.

Easily the worst Oil disaster in US history affecting thousands of jobs and the region's lifestyle.

So would a class action be likely not only for General Liability but also against BP's Directors?
